The Church of Cosmic Indifference acknowledges that the cosmos is uncaring and disinterested in humanity, which places humanity in the ultimate position to determine moral choices and effect well-being. We find the collection of imagery and symbolism widely known as the Cthulhu Mythos to be a fitting depiction of this cosmic indifference, and we hold the values of Humanism to be an appropriate response. We spread this message of a disinterested cosmos in order to embolden and empower human beings to accept personal responsibility for defining their guiding principles and acting with integrity to life-affirming values. In addition, we foster authentic community—through in-person and virtual connection—where individuals can find a sense of belonging and create personally meaningful purpose.
Our weekly podcast starts with the weird fiction of HP Lovecraft and his literary antecedents and progeny. Rev. Randolph Partain responds to these writings with the values of Humanism. It's a weekly opportunity to learn how to manage irrational fear and focus on the things that matter most to you. We also pronounce our weekly curses and blessings invoking the Cthulhu Mythos!
As a tool for releasing anxiety and resentment, we practice the sacrament of calling upon the indifferent cosmos to curse those who offend us, so we can focus on creating meaning and living with authenticity.
We also call upon the indifferent cosmos to bless us and those we cherish, to provide a sense of comfort, connection, and encouragement, understanding that an indifferent cosmos is unlikely to heed or respond to our petitions.
